Career Fulfillment – Finding Work You Love
by: Irina Gomelskaya

How many people do you know who often complain about feeling bored, over-stressed, not valued and appreciated, under-paid or simply not fulfilled at their current job, and yet they stay there for years? Are you one of them, perhaps? A new survey conducted by Harris Interactive found that 31% of employees are not satisfied at their current jobs and 74% of workers would consider leaving if approached with another offer (for attorneys, these percentages are likely to be even higher).

Despite these statistics, most people fail to take a proactive approach to their careers and prefer misery to change, especially in this economy. We are often caught in our survival needs and dealing with the stress of a situation, rather than planning long-term. We are focused on "fixing" the problem as soon as possible and moving on. More

Speed Networking- A First Thursdays First!

Don't miss our next event in the First Thursdays Series, the April 5th Speed Networking- the premiere networking event for NYC Attorneys. We'll match you with the other professionals you most want to meet based on a few key components and take you through 8 rounds of 6 minute sessions. Plus, you'll have the chance to network with other attendees both before and after the speed networking. Register.

The Lawyers Connect First Thursdays Series, Lawyers Connect E-newsletter, and dedicated webpage help attorneys build their network and navigate the first decade of their careers.

Q: My first and only job since graduating from law school in 2007 has been as an Assistant D. A.. After 4.5 years at DA's office, I am now looking to transition out of criminal law and into the private sector, specifically into the area of wills, trusts and estates. I do not have experience in those fields of law, outside of my law school courses, but what can I do to make myself marketable to those firms that emphasize those practice areas?

A: It is often difficult to transition from one legal career to another; however, definitely not impossible! more
