Tips For Starting Your Own Law Firm

Whether you’ve spent several years gaining experience in a larger firm or are striking out on your own early in your career, creating your own law practice can be both exciting and daunting. Fortunately, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Other attorneys who have previously followed this path to success can provide some crucial guidance on issues ranging from the practical to the philosophical.
Define Your Firm: Choose a "Practice Area" Focus on a specific practice area. This allows you to garner a depth of knowledge and become a quasi-expert in a particular legal field. The more you know about a particular legal subject, the faster and more efficiently you can solve your client’s issues, and the more likely you will be referred business in this area in the future. This also makes your pricing competitive--you’ll spend less time learning and more time solving.
Focusing on a specific practice area allows potential clients and other attorneys to remember you as the go-to person for a particular legal problem. You can form long-term referral relationships with other attorneys who focus in other practice areas. More
