Cases & Credits

A young Russian mother abused by her spouse

Ms. Z., a native of Russia, entered the United States in 2000 and got married in November 2006. After approximately one year of enduring her spouse's physical and emotional abuse, Ms. Z. contacted the Immigrant Women and Children Project for assistance in legalizing her status. At the time, her son was just over one year old and Ms. Z. was having trouble caring for him on her own as well as facing eviction due to her financial situation. The Project paired her with an attorney who spoke Russian and facilitated her eligibility for public assistance and housing benefits via an I-360 Self Petition.
