Cases & Credits

A single mother with three dependent children

Ms. V., a single woman with three dependent children, suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and is unable to work. Her entire income consists of SSI disability benefits of $660 per month. She owes more than $8,000 in debt and has been sued by several of her creditors.

After reviewing her rights and choices with a volunteer attorney, Ms. V. decided to file for personal bankruptcy because she was afraid of losing what little she had. Due to her medical condition, she could not easily travel to the Justice Center to work on her case, so Project staff met with her at alternate locations closer to her home. The Chapter 7 case is about to be filed, and Ms. V. should receive a full discharge of her debts.
