Some cases require bringing an action in New York State’s Court of Claims for damages against the state or other state‑related entities. In this informal and informative breakfast discussion, learn about the Court of Claims Act, procedures that differ from CPLR procedure, interpretations of the Act that are not settled, the types of cases litigated, fact patterns that arise, entities other than the State of New York which might be sued on the same incident but in Supreme Court as opposed to the Court of Claims, and the potential complications caused by that difference.
