DISCUSSION 6:30 PM 7:45 PM; NETWORKING RECEPTION  7:45 8:30 PM

In today’s fiercely competitive legal environment, female attorneys of color face unique challenges in generating new business and cultivating and expanding existing client relationships. In particular, women of color: do not benefit from the “presumption of competence” afforded to white men; are highly visible because of their race and gender but are expected to neutralize these traits; fall prey to presumptions about socio-economic or familial backgrounds; and must cross both a gender and race divide to develop effective business relationships.

Moderator: JOI Y. BOURGEOIS, Greiner Consulting

Speakers: HOLLY LOISEAU, Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP; MARSHA SIMMS, (retired) Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP; GHILLAINE REID, Gibbons P.C.; LINDA LU, Allstate Insurance; INDRANI FRANCHINI, Hess Corporation

Sponsored by: Committee on Women in the Profession, Angela Rella, Chair; Committee on Minorities in the Profession, Jeanine Conley, Chair

Co-Sponsored by: Association of Black Women Attorneys; Metropolitan Black Bar Association; Asian American Bar Association of New York
