|Conversation between Court Interpreters and Attorneys|
Wednesday, January 11, 2012 6:30 pm-8:00 pm
The Women in the Courts Task Force of the New York City Bar Association is hosting a conversation between interpreters and attorneys. The purpose of this discussion will be to enable interpreters and attorneys to better understand each others' needs so they can better serve their constituents -- namely the litigants of the court system. The workshop will address issues including but not limited to how attorneys can improve information flow to interpreters, how interpreter introductions should be made to the litigant, protocols for effective communication between attorneys, interpreters and litigants, and cross-cultural issues that arise in the context of the representation/interpretation. We hope that you will join us for what will be an interactive session between the workshop speakers and the audience. Workshop speakers will include interpreters of several languages who have worked in many different courts, as well as personal injury, criminal and domestic violence attorneys.
