Just about every legal professional I know who works full-time actually works double-time or triple-time. And all the time. This rush eventually takes its toll, on the quality of our work and the quality of our life. Contemplative practice invites us to slow down and dwell in the moment; but to do that, first we have to show up. And then, as we practice showing up, in stillness, we have a better chance of developing the skill of showing up fully for every moment. That in turn makes us better lawyers, more skilled at balancing the demands of our profession and realizing the ever-present opportunity of enjoying our life.
Speaker: MARC R. POIRIER, Professor of Law and the Martha Traylor Research Scholar at Seton Hall University School of Law. Before entering academia he was a partner at the Washington, D.C. firm of Spiegel & McDiarmid, practicing energy law. He is an authorized lay teacher in the Ordinary Mind School of Zen.
Event Location: 42 West 44th St. (bet. 5th & 6th Ave.)
