|Discerning Mind vs Judging Mind |
Contemplative Lawyers Group
Thursday, October 20, 2011 7:00 pm-9:00 pm
Event has expired. Registration for this event is no longer available.
Training in concentration and mindfulness meditation supports the capacity to observe the thoughts, emotions and habitual reactions that visit as we engage in our professional roles, including such roles as advocate, counselor and adversary. Becoming more sensitive to the differences between judging and discerning and seeing how to work with sometimes harsh judgments about ourselves and others can be key to reducing the negativity and stress we face as members of the legal profession. The evening will include sitting meditation, a talk and a chance to ask questions and share reflections.
Speaker: CHARMAINE HENDERSON, a court attorney and special referee in family law in the State Supreme Court, has practiced insight meditation since 1994. She teaches primarily through New York Insight Meditation Center.
Event location: 42 West 44th St. (bet. 5th & 6th Ave.)
