|What Passage of the Marriage Equality Law Will Mean for Same-Sex Couples in New York: A Multidisciplinary Forum|
Tuesday, October 4, 2011 6:00 pm-8:00 pm
This is NOT a CLE program.
Registration for this event is closed.
In what can only be described as a sea change, New York's passage of a marriage equality law has extended the rights, privileges and obligations of marriage to same-sex couples who wish to marry in New York. The general principle now must give way to the specific application of the law. Join us as a panel of experts representing various practice areas discusses, in an informal setting, the practical implications of marriage for same-sex couples. Panelists will explore open issues under the new law, the anticipated impact of the law on both individual and institutional clients, and the lingering effects of the Defense of Marriage Act and state laws that ban recognition of same-sex marriage.
This introductory forum will be the first in a series of programs analyzing the changing landscape of marriage for same-sex couples. Upcoming CLE programs include Defense of Marriage Act Litigation: Strategy, Tactics & Theory on October 20th and Marriage Equality in New York: The New Legal Landscape for Same-Sex Couples on November 9th. Attendees of the October 4th forum will be eligible for a discount at the October 20th and November 9th CLE programs.
