Current criminal justice policy in the State should, but does not, identify people with physical disabilities as a group with special reentry needs even though they comprise a significant percentage of the New York State under-custody population. It is crucial for New York State’s recidivism-reducing reentry policies and practices to reflect the actual relevant characteristics of the reentering population. Panelists from this event will discuss what reentry services are currently available to people with physical disabilities. Also, the panelists will discuss how to improve collaborations between disability-rights organizations and criminal-justice oriented organizations.
